The statue that Rebecca knocks over is a statue of Cthulhu
The role of "The Professor" proved especially difficult to cast, as most of the actors to audition for the role were more conventionally attractive and played the part more extroverted than it was written. A member of the Fangoria production team suggested the casting director "find someone like Preston Fassel," then working as a staff writer for the magazine; as a joke, Fassel himself submitted an audition tape.
Set in the Lovecraft universe, with reference to Cthulhu and the Miskatonic University
The plot is primarily based on Lovecraft's "The Dunwich Horror" and to a lesser extent on "The Outsider".
