No sequel was originally planned for Beethoven (1992), but after the film became a surprise box office success, a sequel was commissioned.
Christopher Masterson had a small role in the film, however his older brother, Danny Masterson, had a leading role in the film. The two were not playing brothers in the movie, so neither one mentioned to anyone that they were related. When producers went to view the film, they noticed the resemblance, and re-shot all of Chris' scenes with another actor.
Feature film debut of Danny Masterson.
Regina (Debi Mazar) suggests the puppies be drowned as a means of getting rid of them. This form of abuse was also suggested by the puppy-hating Cruella de Vil in "101 Dalmations". Regina seems to strongly resemble the Cruella character in several aspects; her fashion sense, dim-witted henchman, hatred of puppies.
According to director Rod Daniel, Chris Penn had a severe drug addiction during filming, and Bonnie Hunt was not fun to work with.
"Floyd: [knock at the door] That's her, that's the dog Regina: Dogs don't knock, Floyd."
"Regina: People in California generally swallow before they start talking. Floyd: [Has banana in his mouth] Hey. I know how to eat in California, okay?"
