Trivia

A local family was paid to move out of their homestead for a week in order to shoot the monastery scenes.

The funeral and wedding scenes where completely unrehearsed. During the shooting of both scenes, most cast and crew where moved to tears.

Almost ninety-five percent of the Xhosa and Pondo people hired as extras were completely illiterate.

Many of the Pondo and Xhosi people in the cast had never seen a movie in their lives.

Over twenty crew members including Producer Bryan Hofbauer and Cinematographer Tom Harting were afflicted with South African Tick Bite Fever while shooting on-location.
